REPORT: Strong trio debut gives KSBC wazee early hope for making the playoffs

Another weekend of surprises and upsets capped off a memorable game week with interesting results showcased in the end. It was a one-sided affair as Saints early tipoff ended as a blowout affair against debutants KCA 53-29. Brian Musili carried the Saints to victory with a dominant performance outshining their whole roster with 17 points, their second-highest scorer capping off with 6. KCA who had two games throughout the weekend however show extreme promise with rookie guard Glen Omondi getting all the praise. The youngster, dawning #12 jersey has so far shown that he won’t be letting the team be treated as a pushover. Against Saints he was the most outstanding player for the team ending up with 9 points however, it was against Thika Wolves the next day that he asserted his dominance in the team. KCA lost again 46-53 against another debutant team, Thika Wolves, who also had a dominant performance from their number #12, Mwaura Judah, summing up a duel like no other. Glen finished the game with 16 points while his counterpart Mwaura finished with 16 points also although the latter fouled out in the later stages of the game leaving fans with questions on how the duel would have ended. It was a closely contested game with outstanding performances between two promising players in my opinion.

Clippers continued their great start to the season by dealing another upset against Blackhawks 52-41. The team is coming up strong and playing their best basketball in this game having an all-around performance by their players altogether. However, it was on the Blackhawks team that we saw a dominant performance by hard worker guard Sam Shalom who had 17 points with also Big man Henry Kipsoi ending up with the same. The game was closely contested in the early stages but a thin rostered Blackhawks couldn’t handle the firepower clippers brought especially since Shalom went down with a foot injury mid-fourth quarter, their clear ‘best player’ in the game. Clippers now stand among the table-toppers and are ready for any challenger willing to come their way. It’s not all tears in the Blackhawks camp though as they walked with the points after they were handed over a forfeit by The Firm who still seem to not have their affairs in order, pun intended.

MKU Nets dominated newcomers MBBC 75-43 in a dominating encounter that saw the return of ‘long lost’ guard Edwin Njoroge, popularly known as ‘lefty’ who showed he hasn’t lost touch putting up several threes in the game.

The highlight of the weekend, however, was the KSBC Wazee game against 4-Christ. New look wazee came forth attacking with their new star trio of Cliff Mumbo, Khalifa Brian, and Kevin Oyugi who also ended up as the top scorers for the wazee side with 9 points, 13 points, and 9 points respectively. A quiet afternoon for the ever-present old gun duo of Frank Mwenda and Ken Lanyo who took all the help with open arms. A point of concern for their team was however their perimeter defense with 4-Christ scoring a season-high 11 3-pointers against them. Majaliwa Gati lit the wazee camp from deep with 4 of the total 3-point plays ending up as 4-Christ’s top scorer with 17 points. Atem Garang also continued with his good run of form ending the game with 11 points, the team’s second-highest top scorer. A great game according to the fans ending up with KSBC Wazee getting their first victory of the season 62-52.
