REPORT: Nexus fortunes continue to turn as Knights domination in the East continues

It was a weekend to marvel for Nexus and their fans as their fortunes continue to turn positively with yet another win in the bag, this time dominating their opponents Jaguars in a one-sided affair that ended in a 89-42 victory for the zimmerman based club. The match was pretty much over by third quarter after a stellar run of 25-6 leaving Jaguars awaiting their next match early on.

A double-header weekend for both KSBC Wazee and 4-Christ who both posted mixed results. The old guns were welcomed into the weekend playing an in-form Knights who dominated them from start to finish ending with a high scoring result of 91-34. A stellar performance from the Kingsmen guard Simon Mwanzia who had 28 Points, 2 Assists dropping 7/11 threes in the process, and big man Ivan Ombiru who put up 21 Points, 14 Rebounds, 2 Assists, 3 Blocks to carry home this week’s player of the week award. It’s now back-to-back player of the week for the team in form. However, on the second day Wazee bounced back by pouncing on Thika Wolves winning 52-41 to record their second victory of the season being led by free scoring guard Roy Karanga who had 20 Points, 2 Assists, 2 Steals.

In a series of closely contested games, 4-Christ suffered their fourth loss of the season to Calvary Warriors after a timely mistake at the final stretch of the game left them in shambles. Calvary Warriors took advantage and scored to go on top and win the game 44-42. On day two however, the Christians bounced back big time just pipping out Saints in the final quarter to win 47-36 DRC international Gracia Wishelulema ending up as the game’s top scorer with 11 Points, 3 Rebounds, 2 Assists. Seems like 4-Christ beat them to the cathedral this time round and with Saints having a tougher matchup in this weekend’s gameday they’ll be praying for a miracle.

It was disappointment galore for both Blackhawks and Dub Neshen camps as they both lost in matches, they should have easily won. A horrid turnover in the last few seconds for both teams led to them leaving the venue angry or in tears. Blackhawks couldn’t endure the pressure and experience of a short-handed Legends team despite Abel Sum hitting 5-three pointers in the first quarter only to start off hot. It was all downward spiral for the team especially after their dependable forward Daniel Lubutse fouled out in the final minutes. Legends took the day 65-60 behind a stellar Lameck Miruka who scored the final 10 points of the team in the last 90 seconds to beat their opponents. Dub Neshen on the other hand couldn’t seem to brush off a persistent Delmonte team who were freshly psyched dawning their new uniform. From my point of view, the fresh scented jerseys seemed to ward off any offensive tactics Dub Neshen had up their sleeves. We’ll allow them to carry pineapples for their opponents next meeting to confuse the Thika-based side but in the meantime, it’s sweet victory for Delmonte 46-42 the final score.

The final games of the weekend involved an intense game between Jedi Order and fierce rivals Ruiru Baptist. A game that marked the debut of the brother to Kenyan international Tylor Ongwae; James Ongwae. Talent seems to be running through the family as he did not disappoint ending up as joint top scorer with guard Collins Adodi for Jedi with 15 Points, 4 Rebounds, 2 Steals and 15 Points, 3 Rebounds, 3 Steals, 1 Block. The duo was however outwitted by Ruiru Baptist’s Joseph Gitau and Derrick Igadwa who posted 25 Points, 3 Rebounds, 7 Assists, 4 Steals and 19 Points, 4 Rebounds respectively. It was Ruiru Baptist who came up big in the final quarter finishing on a 21-10 run to emerge as the eventual winners 72-62.

JKUAT’s finest, Straycats, pulled off an impressive win against Thika Pines despite missing most of their key players. An overall great performance shared almost equally between the old guns and youthful players of the team showed a masterclass in teamwork for the Juja boys. They beat a thinned out Thika Pines 56-29 despite the hard-fought efforts by their opponents behind Vincent Oduya’s 6 Points, 10 Rebounds, 1 Assist and 1 Block.

The season is now fully back on, and we’ll be hoping to see more fans come to watch these games as seen in the current trajectory. Next weekend is a game week full of entertaining games be sure to attend and do bring your families and friends over.
